A thoughtful gift for a gardening and botany lover - green silk scarf with US Northeast native plants hand painted by Boston artist & designer Darya Karenski.
The story
- This design features hand-painted watercolor plants native to New England, my home of 15 years. Inspiration was taken from walking through the seasons at Garden In The Woods - a Native Plant Trust property in Framingham, MA - and/or plants purchased from their plant shop, now growing in the artist’s garden!
- For the past few years, I have been working at the NPT visitor center part time, sharing my passion for gardening and education with like-minded people. Learn more about Native Plant Trust in my blog post.
- Featured plants include: monarda, milkweed, trillium, trout lily, cardinal flower, penstemon, wild blue phlox, Canada wild rye.
- The border presents a quote by the Swedish botanist Carl (Carolus) Linnaeus, the creator of binomial nomenclature for naming living organisms: "A herbarium is better than any illustration; every botanist should make one.”
- Hand-painted in watercolor and complemented by an elegant script font with Latin botanical names of the plants - presented in the manner introduced by Linnaeus! E.g. Asclepias tuberosa - butterfly weed (orange milkweed).
A similar style is available with aromatic plants - check the "Naturalist Notebook" collection!
